Nov. 5 – Texas Book Festival

The Texas Book Festival is my favorite time of the year! It’s an all-out celebration of books and the people who love them. I’m thrilled to be on the schedule this year, along with many other fabulous authors. Here’s where you’ll find me:

There are so many labels out there. How can educators ensure that every child feels welcome in their classroom? Hear from authors Leslea Newman and Paige Britt about constructing identity for kids and ways to incorporate texts and activities that promote acceptance and understanding.

Sneak Peek of WHY AM I ME?

WHY AM I ME? Scholastic Press, Fall 2017

When I was little, I was captivated by the question of why I was me and not someone else. Did anyone else wonder about this? I hope so, because I wrote a picture book about it!

I’m super excited to show everyone a sneak peek of  WHY AM I ME? brought to life with illustrations by Sean Qualls and Selina Alko. It will officially hit the shelves in September (although you can pre-order it now). Until then, enjoy this gorgeous cover!

THE LOST TRACK OF TIME Now Available in Spanish!

51rUH34mrNL._SX315_BO1,204,203,200_I’m excited to announce that THE LOST TRACK OF TIME will be available in Spanish on December 31! May I present . . . EL REINO DE LAS POSIBILIDADES!

My Spanish publisher, Ediciones Urano, has offices in Spain and Latin America, which means kids in many Spanish-speaking countries (!!) will get to read my book. I’ll never get over how happy that makes me.

I’ve gotten emails from a few readers in Spain, so I believe it’s already available there, but if you want to get a copy here in the States, you can preorder it from all the major booksellers (Indiebound, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes).

Conversation With My Editor — Tracy Mack

The Lost Track of Time Pages 202-203-smallAre you ever curious about a book’s backstory? This Q&A with my brilliant editor, Tracy Mack, gives you a behind-the-scenes look into what inspired THE LOST TRACK OF TIME. Here’s a taste:

One night, I woke from a dream where two people—a girl in overalls and a tall man with crazy red hair—were having a very animated and interesting conversation. Without bothering to turn on the light, I grabbed a notebook and jotted down their dialogue. And that’s how the story began.
