I’m pleased and proud to say that my debut picture book WHY AM I ME? has received three starred reviews! One each from Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly. This book for all ages, celebrates the big questions in life. It doesn’t have answers, but there are lots of opportunities for dialogue and delight. Sean Qualls and Selina Alko’s exquisite illustrations are intimate, yet expansive, and altogether wonderful!
⭐️Universal questions combine with richly layered, captivating compositions, presenting opportunities for careful examination and stimulating conversations. Perfect for classroom or one-on-one sharing.

WHY AM I ME? Scholastic Press, Fall 2017
When I was little, I was captivated by the question of why I was me and not someone else. Did anyone else wonder about this? I hope so, because I wrote a picture book about it!
I’m super excited to show everyone a sneak peek of WHY AM I ME? brought to life with illustrations by Sean Qualls and Selina Alko. It will officially hit the shelves in September (although you can pre-order it now). Until then, enjoy this gorgeous cover!
I’m excited to announce that THE LOST TRACK OF TIME will be available in Spanish on December 31! May I present . . . EL REINO DE LAS POSIBILIDADES!
My Spanish publisher, Ediciones Urano, has offices in Spain and Latin America, which means kids in many Spanish-speaking countries (!!) will get to read my book. I’ll never get over how happy that makes me.
I’ve gotten emails from a few readers in Spain, so I believe it’s already available there, but if you want to get a copy here in the States, you can preorder it from all the major booksellers (Indiebound, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes).
Are you ever curious about a book’s backstory? This Q&A with my brilliant editor, Tracy Mack, gives you a behind-the-scenes look into what inspired THE LOST TRACK OF TIME. Here’s a taste:
One night, I woke from a dream where two people—a girl in overalls and a tall man with crazy red hair—were having a very animated and interesting conversation. Without bothering to turn on the light, I grabbed a notebook and jotted down their dialogue. And that’s how the story began.

I’m going home! This Saturday, April 11, I’ll be signing books at Fletcher’s Books & Antiques in my hometown of Salado, Texas. I grew up visiting this store and being fascinated by the treasures I found there — old books, antique toys, and exotic trinkets. Come see what you’ll discover…
Many thanks to the Salado Village Voice for their article featuring the event:
